Health department on high alert as dengue cases surge in Patna

The dengue fever outbreak is rapidly increasing in Ludhiana, Punjab, with the number of positive cases nearly doubling in the past two weeks. This increase has significantly increased the city’s overall infection rate compared to last year.

Health department data shows that the number of dengue cases increased from 87 on September 24 to 166 by October 9, marking an increase of nearly 91% in just 15 days.

Officials confirmed that the current number of 166 cases this year exceeds the 115 cases reported by the same date in 2024, raising concerns about the rising dengue cases. Of the 166 patients reported this year, approximately 90 have recovered after hospitalization. As of the last count, 12 dengue patients are still hospitalized and undergoing treatment.

Ludhiana’s urban area is most affected by dengue.
September saw the highest increase, with 104 of the total reported cases. This month, 34 cases have been reported as of October 9th. Geographically, Ludhiana urban areas have been the most affected, with the highest number of cases in the district at 56, followed by Khanna with 31. Among rural blocks, Manupur leads with 21 cases.

Health Department Deploys 325 Teams Across the District

The Health Department has made extensive efforts to investigate vector-borne diseases. Approximately 325 teams have been formed across the district, including teams from a non-governmental organization (NGO) working in urban areas. To prevent mosquito breeding, more than 55 of the 100 breeding investigators appointed this year were assigned to densely populated urban areas.
