Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu presided over the fourth annual conference of the Himachal Pradesh State Chapter of the Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India (AOMSI) in Shimla on Saturday. During the event, he announced that the dental college in Shimla would be renamed Rajiv Gandhi Dental College, Shimla.
He also announced the establishment of a Dental Health Research Center in Hamirpur at a cost of ₹300 crore. He stated that this center would generate employment opportunities and provide people with superior, modern treatment facilities.
The Chief Minister remarked that the work of oral and maxillofacial surgeons is vital; they not only treat patients but also play a crucial role in restoring their self-confidence and improving their quality of life. He expressed confidence that this conference would prove to be a significant step towards serving the public.
Sukhu noted that the state government is bringing about comprehensive changes in the health sector, yielding positive results. He mentioned that until a few years ago, it was difficult to even imagine that modern facilities like robotic surgery and advanced technologies such as 3-Tesla MRI would be available in Himachal’s government hospitals.
The state government is striving to provide advanced technology and modern medical facilities not only in medical colleges but also in district hospitals, ensuring that people can access quality, affordable treatment close to home without having to travel to other states for medical care.
He stated that the state government has taken several significant initiatives to strengthen the health sector by engaging in dialogue with the state’s doctors. A similar program will also be organized with dental professionals to ensure that modern, high-quality healthcare facilities are made available to the public through dental colleges.
The Chief Minister noted that doctors trained in Shimla are bringing laurels to Himachal Pradesh both within the country and abroad. He added that the doctors of Himachal Pradesh are exceptionally talented and competent, playing a vital role in providing superior healthcare services to the people of the state through the use of modern technology.
