Mumbai: Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has rescheduled his Delhi concert from November 1 to October 30 following an appeal by Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney, who urged him to respect the sentiments of families affected by the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
Sahney thanked Diljit for agreeing to change the date, describing him as a “true son of Punjab” and praising his sensitivity towards the victims and their families.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Sahney expressed gratitude to the singer for accepting the request not to perform in Delhi on November 1, the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
“Heartfelt thanks to @diljitdosanjh for graciously accepting our request not to perform in Delhi on November 1, coinciding with the anniversary of the tragic 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Concert is now rescheduled to 30th Oct,” Sahney wrote.
He further praised Diljit for acknowledging the significance of the date for affected families.
“Daljit is a true son of Punjab, a proud turbaned global icon, and an inspiration to millions who look up to him. His sensitivity towards the sentiments of the victims and their families reflects the responsibility and compassion that come with your stature. May he continues to make Punjab and India proud,” the MP added.
Sahney Had Appealed for a Change in Concert Date
The rescheduling follows Sahney’s earlier appeal to Diljit and his team to move the Delhi leg of the singer’s Aura Tour, which was originally scheduled for November 1 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
In his appeal, the MP highlighted the painful memories associated with the anniversary for thousands of families affected by the 1984 violence.
“Diljit bhaji, you are Punjab’s pride and India’s voice to the world. But 1st November is the anniversary of the 1984 Sikh genocide in Delhi. For thousands of families, those days are still full of grief,” Sahney had written.
He also urged the singer to shift the concert to another date, asking him to honour the victims’ memory before celebrating music.
“Please ask your team to move the Delhi show at JLN Stadium scheduled for 1st Nov to another date. Honour the memory, then celebrate the music,” the MP wrote.
Aura Tour to Cover Multiple Indian Cities
Diljit’s Aura Tour was scheduled to begin in Delhi before moving to Indore, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Lucknow and Chandigarh.
The Aura World Tour brings together the music, energy and large-scale production associated with the singer-actor’s live performances, translating the scale of his international shows into a stadium experience for Indian audiences.
With the Delhi concert now scheduled for October 30, the date has been moved away from the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, following Sahney’s appeal on behalf of families who continue to remember the tragedy.
