Diwali Brings Wealth to Nation’s Markets

Diwali has been celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm in India for centuries. It symbolizes the victory of good over evil and the arrival of wealth and prosperity in life. This year’s Diwali can be called special from a market perspective. Global politics, society, and circumstances have changed so dramatically that the wealth of Indian investors increased by ₹8 lakh crore in a single day. The country had been facing a supply crisis for eight months due to the US-Iran war. President Donald Trump suffered a crushing defeat in the US midterm elections. This changed the entire political landscape of the world. Hopes of reopening supply channels were raised. Crude oil prices fell sharply, and hopes for a resolution to the ongoing conflict in West Asia increased. Indian markets also saw a revival. This signal of stability brought smiles to the gold and silver markets and to ordinary traders. The Indian stock market has been soaring since Thursday. The BSE benchmark index reached 79,310.01, having once fallen below 75,000. The NSE Nifty index rose to its highest level in the last three months at 24,536.60. This influx of wealth reversed the market dynamics. The market capitalization of all BSE-listed companies once again surpassed ₹5 lakh crore. Brent crude, which had been threatening to reach $115 per barrel, fell to $96.12. The boom in the stock markets also brought significant wealth to the country’s auto sector, financial services, and real estate sector. There was a lot of shopping on Dhanteras. Diwali is now approaching. The conjunction of the Swati Nakshatra is especially auspicious for worshipping Goddess Lakshmi. The auspicious time for Diwali will be from 10:51 AM on Wednesday to 11:32 AM on Monday. Due to favorable conditions, householders and businesspeople will enthusiastically worship Goddess Lakshmi for prosperity. We, along with our countrymen, will welcome this year’s Diwali with unprecedented peace and enthusiasm. Now, let me say something from an economic perspective. Consider how the uncertainty created by war disrupts the entire global structure. When the American public held a mirror to Donald Trump, the instigator of war, his arrogance subsided and markets around the world breathed a sigh of relief. Last year, the biggest problem in India’s markets was the massive selling of foreign capital, while domestic capital investment was supporting the market. Now the situation has changed. This Diwali, we wish that the outflow of foreign capital from India stops, investment stabilizes, productivity regains its rhythm, demand fluctuations in the markets stop, and stock markets, which were delivering belowaverage returns last year, restore savers’ confidence. This initiative has been initiated before this Diwali. For the next financial year, we should hope that this investment environment will continue, and India will progress rapidly. Inflation, which has emerged due to supply-side disruptions, will be contained, and we will continue to slightly shift our monetary policy from a price control policy to an investment-growth policy. After a long time, the auspicious festival of Diwali is coming in such a blessed atmosphere. It should be welcomed, but with green firecrackers, as ordered by the judiciary, and not with explosive firecrackers that emit suffocating smoke. The recent draft UGC regulations released by the UGC sparked considerable controversy and debate. It was perceived as overly biased toward SC/STs and unfair to upper castes. General category students even protested, calling these regulations one-sided and discriminatory. The situation now appears to be one where the central government’s reputation will be at stake in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. To prevent the opposition from making the UGC regulations a major issue in these elections and pitting upper caste Hindus against the ruling party, the central government has informed the Supreme Court that it is forming a special committee to re-examine the UGC regulations with the aim of promoting equality in higher education institutions. Remember, the Supreme Court, while considering this rule, emphasized the need to protect the interests of every student, without any discrimination. On Thursday, a bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant heard the UGC Equality Rules 2026. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the central government, informed the bench that the government was considering addressing students’ concerns. No section of the student community should feel neglected, insecure, or apprehensive. Therefore, the government will form a special committee to reconsider the UGC regulations. The Chief Justice also stated that the welfare, concerns, and interests of the younger generation should be prioritized, and sensitive issues should not be inflamed. The Supreme Court had previously stayed the controversial regulations in January 2026, emphasizing the need to ensure that no category of students is discriminated against and that the interests of every student are protected. Even in August 2026, the Central Government informed the court that these rules would be reconsidered. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) also declared these rules unbalanced and advocated for their reconciliation. However, in a democracy, if any flaws remain, there is no harm in reconsidering them to correct them. Undoubtedly, the Central Government’s new decision will give all student groups equal rights to appeal and seek redressal of discriminatory treatment D
