Jalandhar: The Jalandhar Rural Police have arrested an accused individual in possession of 100 grams of heroin (locally known as ‘Chitta’). The police stated that the accused has previously worked as a Sales Manager at a bank and currently serves as a caretaker at a church.
Led by Inspector Pushp Bali, a team from the CIA Staff specifically ASI Balwinder Singh signaled a young motorcyclist to stop while conducting routine patrolling and checks in the Lambra-Nakodar area.
The police team intercepted the individual near Singha Gate on the Nakodar-Jalandhar road during their inspection. His motorcycle bore the registration number PB47-G-3283. Upon spotting the police party, the suspect became visibly nervous and attempted to turn back; the police team immediately stopped him and initiated questioning.
The accused identified himself as Samuel, a resident of Talwandi Nepalan village, under the jurisdiction of the Makhu Police Station in Ferozepur district. During a subsequent search, 100 grams of heroin were recovered from his possession.
SSP Harwinder Singh Virk stated that this action was taken as part of an ongoing campaign against anti-social elements. SSP Virk further explained that on May 8, the CIA Staff team was deployed for patrolling and checks in the Lambra-Nakodar area, during which the drug trafficker was apprehended. A case has been registered against him at the Lambra Police Station under FIR No. 56, invoking Sections 21B, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act.

Turned to Trafficking in the Lure of Quick Money

The SSP of Jalandhar Rural Police revealed that preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused served as a caretaker at a church located in Talwandi Nepalan and had previously worked as a Sales Manager at a bank. He allegedly turned to drug trafficking out of a desire to make money quickly; he would procure heroin from the border areas of Ferozepur and supply it to various villages across the Jalandhar, Nakodar and Lambra regions. According to the police, the interrogation of the accused is ongoing with the aim of identifying the sources and buyers within the drug supply network. During the investigation, the accused’s forward and backward linkages are being scrutinized, and his past activities in the region are also being examined. Furthermore, legal proceedings will be initiated to identify and seize any movable and immovable assets allegedly acquired through drug trafficking. The police anticipate further revelations during the remand period. As part of the operation, the police have also taken into custody the motorcycle being used by the accused.
