Drug peddler arrested with 2.510 kg opium, Rs 22.41 lakh cash, gold jewelry, car seized

Ludhiana: The city police have arrested a man for drug peddling and recovered 2.510 kg opium along with Rs 22.41 lakh in cash from his possession.

According to the police, the accused was also involved in illegal gambling. The police have also seized a swift car, five mobile phones, gold jewelry and gambling material from his possession.

The accused have been identified as Amarjeet Singh alias Gandhi of BRS Nagar J-block.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation) Shubham Aggarwal said that the accused used to bring in large quantities of opium and used to sell it to the customers. He was also involved in illegal gambling activities.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP- West) Gurdev Singh said that Amarjeet Singh initially used to run a make-shift stall to sell cigarettes and then she started selling lottery tickets and subsequently indulged in gambling activities.

“There was a tip that the accused along with illegal gambling is also indulged in drug peddling. So, a raid was conducted at his residence and he was arrested after recovery of contraband,” he said.

ACP said that along with seizing Rs 22.41 lakh in cash the police have also seized a car, gold jewelry including bracelets, ring, necklace, chain, gents kada, ladies bangles, etc. which were purchased from the drug money.

 The accused is already facing trial in a case of gambling registered against him in April 2023 at Division number 8 police station. He had come out of jail on April 29.

Now a fresh case under sections 18/61/85 of the narcotics drugs and psychotropic substances act has been registered against the accused at Sarabha Nagar police station.
