Drug Smuggler Arrested with 2.5 kg Opium in Ludhiana

Ludhiana (Punjab): Ludhiana Commissionerate has made a significant drug bust, arresting a smuggler identified as Amarjeet Singh, alias Gandhi, a resident of BRS Nagar. The operation led to the seizure of 2.5 kg of opium, along with Rs 22 lakh in cash believed to be drug money, and a car used for transportation. The arrest occurred during a targeted operation aimed at curbing drug trafficking in the region.

In addition to the opium and cash, law enforcement officials recovered five mobile phones and gold jewelry from Singh, indicating potential links to a larger drug network. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigations) Shubham Aggarwal stated that Singh had a prior criminal record, having been arrested in a gambling case and released on bail in April 2023. This recent arrest highlights the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in combating drug-related crimes.

The Ludhiana police are now investigating the origins of the opium and Singh’s connections within the drug trade. Officials are urging the public to report any suspicious activities to assist in the fight against drug smuggling. This incident serves as a reminder of the persistent issue of drug trafficking in the region and the law enforcement’s commitment to tackling it head-on. Further investigations are underway to uncover any additional individuals involved in this illicit operation.
