Jalandhar/Amritsar: The Jalandhar STF team arrested two young men in Amritsar late last night for possession of heroin valued at 7 crores. The suspects were on a bike, intending to supply the drug, when police apprehended them on the spot.
Sub-Inspector Sanjeev Kumar reported that ASI Rajwinder Singh, along with Shahbaz and Manoj Kumar from the Jalandhar STF team, had set up a checkpoint near the bus stand. When the two youths approached on their bike and noticed the police presence, they attempted to turn back.
The police pursued and apprehended them. Upon questioning, the officers suspected the individuals might be carrying narcotics. They called in the DSP to assist, and a search was conducted. From the first suspect, Rahul Rathore, a resident of Maha Singh Gate, 300 grams of heroin were recovered.
The second suspect, Harpreet Singh, who resides on Ram Talai Road, had 705 grams of heroin in his possession. In total, 1 kilogram and 5 grams of heroin were seized, with an estimated international value of 7 crores.
Both suspects have been arrested, and investigations will also focus on their connections. Police are currently questioning them about their sources for obtaining heroin and their methods of distribution.
