Election Commission of India Delists 334 Non-Compliant Political Parties

Some anti-national forces are aiming to influence the Tarn Taran by-election in Punjab with drugs rather than money. A cross-border narcotics syndicate has suddenly increased its activity in this assembly constituency, bordering Pakistan. The syndicate’s operatives are supplying large quantities of drugs exclusively to the Tarn Taran assembly constituency. Drug addicts, especially young voters, are their target.

Nefarious attempts to smuggle weapons into the area, along with drugs, are ongoing. Security agencies have informed the Election Commission of this report. Meanwhile, the Border Security Force, Punjab Police, and other security agencies are also working to dismantle this syndicate’s network. The schedule for the by-election in the Tarn Taran assembly seat has been announced.

Nomination underway

The nomination process is underway. So far, six candidates have filed their papers. Nominations can be filed until October 21st. Scrutiny will take place on October 22nd. Nominations can be withdrawn until October 24th. Voting will take place on November 11th and counting will take place on November 14th. In fact, this seat fell vacant after the death of Aam Aadmi Party MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal in June 2025.

The SAD, BJP, AAP, Congress, and MP Amritpal’s party, the Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De), have fielded their candidates, and all parties are striving hard for victory. Political activity in Tarn Taran is now intensifying, but some forces are trying to influence the voting by luring voters into the trap of drugs.

These consignments seized so far

As a result, 17.99 kg of drugs have been seized in this assembly constituency since October 7, following the announcement of the elections. Security agencies have estimated the value of these drugs at ₹45.08 crore. Similarly, 379.25 liters of liquor have been seized within nine days. 1,252 items worth ₹18.89 lakh have been seized, which were imported for free distribution. Similarly, cash worth ₹68,220,000 has been seized so far. Security agencies have also seized some weapons shipped from across the border.
