Moga: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided the residence of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and Punjab Women’s Wing President Amandeep Kaur Arora in Moga, Punjab, early Wednesday. The ED team arrived at her residence around 3 am. Security personnel and party workers were seen outside the residence.
AAP leaders have described this action as an attempt at political targeting. Party leaders allege that ED officials closed the main gate of the house and did not allow anyone inside.
ED team arrives at 3 am
Moga’s Senior Deputy Mayor, Rakesh Kumar Bajaj, told ANI that the ED team arrived at the MLA’s residence around 3 am. The officials closed the main gate and did not allow anyone inside. Even those who tried to bring water and tea for the MLA were stopped.
Bajaj said that the agency has been trying to target the MLA for the past five to seven days. He alleged that such action is being taken before the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
AAP leaders allege political pressure
Rakesh Kumar Bajaj compared the ED’s action to that of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau and alleged that the central agency is also operating in the same manner. He said that the party is confident that the MLA will be cleared in this case.
He alleged that the ED is conducting raids in states and places where the BJP is not in power. According to him, this is aimed at tarnishing the image of the Punjab government.
Bajaj said that the people of Punjab are with the state government and will support it in the upcoming assembly elections.
Claim of action at two locations
The AAP leader claimed that the ED’s action is underway at two locations. The second location is suspected to be the MLA’s flat.
When asked if the officials provided any prior information or a reason for the raid, he stated that no such information was provided. According to his allegation, the officials arrived directly at the residence, entered, and locked the doors. He also claimed that the MLA was also being held inside the premises by the officials.
AAP Demands to Be Allowed to Meet the MLA
Bajaj stated that political pressure has been building in Punjab for the past several days. According to him, pressure on opposition leaders is increasing where the BJP is not in power.
He demanded that party leaders be allowed to meet the MLA and observe the proceedings taking place inside the premises. Bajaj stated that his demand is to be allowed inside so that he can meet the MLA and have the entire proceedings conducted in his presence.
Note: The reasons for the ED raid and official details related to the case are not available in this report. The allegations made by AAP leaders are based on their statements.
