MC Elections: First day of withdrawal of nominations in Jalandhar, 448 candidates filed papers in 85 wards

Jalandhar: About 448 candidates filed nominations in 85 wards on the last day of nomination for the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation elections in Punjab, i.e. on 12 December (Thursday). This information was shared by Election Officer cum DC Himanshu Aggarwal. 698 candidates have filed nominations including Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayats. Today is the first day of nomination withdrawal and nomination scrutiny. Nominations of those whose nominations are found to be deficient will be withdrawn.

DC Aggarwal said that 448 candidates have filed nomination papers for 85 wards of Municipal Corporation Jalandhar. Similarly, 62 nomination papers have been filed for 13 wards of Bhogpur Municipal Council, 53 for 13 wards of Goraya Municipal Council, and 4 nomination papers have been filed for ward number 13 of Phillaur Municipal Council. 47 candidates have filed nomination papers for 13 wards of Nagar Panchayat Bilga. Nomination papers have been filed by 81 candidates for 13 wards of Nagar Panchayat Shahkot and 3 candidates for ward number 5 of Nagar Panchayat Mehtpur.

DC further said that the district administration is committed to conducting the elections of Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats in a free, fair and transparent manner.

The district administration has made extensive arrangements for the smooth conduct of the elections and election staff is being given adequate training. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on December 13 and nomination papers can be withdrawn till December 14.
