Mumbai: Bollywood actor Anupam Kher shared his heartfelt condolences on Instagram for all the families affected by the crash of Flight AI-171 in Ahmedabad on June 12, which resulted in 241 fatalities. In his video message, Kher prayed for peace for the victims’ families and asked for patience and courage for those suffering. He emphasized that, beyond words, humanity is united in support, saluting all affected families with respect and offering prayers for peace. He also posted a tribute on social media with the words, “Ahmedabad plane crash – Tribute! Om Shanti!”
Following the tragedy, actor Shah Rukh Khan took to social media with heartfelt prayers for the victims and their families. Similarly, actress Anushka Sharma expressed her sadness and sent her thoughts and prayers through her Instagram Story. Aamir Khan’s team also conveyed their condolences via a post on “Aamir Khan Productions,” stating they are deeply saddened by the incident and stand in solidarity with everyone impacted, urging everyone to stay strong.
The crash involved Air India Flight AI-171 heading to London’s Gatwick, which went down shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad International Airport. Of the 242 people on board, only one survived—a British national of Indian origin. The passengers included 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian. The pilot, Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, had 8,200 flying hours, and the First Officer Clive Kunnar had 1,100 hours of experience. According to Air Traffic Control, the aircraft left at 13:39 IST, made a Mayday call, but did not respond further before crashing outside the airport perimeter, and a large plume of black smoke was seen at the site.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Ahmedabad on Friday morning to assess the accident site and subsequently visited the Civil Hospital to meet with those injured in the crash.
