Saif Ali Khan stabbing: Twinkle Khanna speaks up for Kareena

Mumbai: Twinkle Khanna, author and wife of Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, has publicly supported actress Kareena Kapoor Khan following criticism directed at her after the recent stabbing of her husband, Saif Ali Khan.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, Khanna addressed the tendency of society to blame wives when their husbands face difficulties. She expressed frustration that, following the attack, rumors circulated suggesting that Kareena was either absent or intoxicated during the incident.

Khanna noted, “This Sunday it’s all about why wives are seldom seen as number one, except when it comes to blame. After an actor was stabbed, absurd rumors surfaced about his wife. People are quick to shift blame onto the wife, which is a common issue. For instance, when the Beatles broke up, Yoko Ono was scapegoated. Melania Trump is often criticized for her silence on her husband’s policies, and Anushka Sharma faces backlash when Virat Kohli performs poorly.”

She continued to emphasize that women are unfairly blamed for their husbands’ health or behavior, adding that she encountered a relative who jokingly attributed baldness to marital status.

Khanna pointed out the irony that, “behind every man—be it a loser or a leader—stands a woman who is ready to be vilified at a moment’s notice.”

She also expressed her irritation at being labeled a “star wife” in interviews, quipping about the absurdity of such a label and revealing her exasperation with questions about her and her husband’s differing political views. Khanna noted, “It’s almost as if people think he isn’t my husband but rather a child who will heed my simple requests.”

In her reflective piece, she captured the complexities faced by women in the public eye and the societal norms that persistently overshadow their identities.
