Mumbai: Renowned Bollywood actress Shabana Azmi is currently in France for the 46th Festival des 3 Continents, held annually in Nantes. While exploring the city, she fondly recalled the legendary filmmaker Shyam Benegal.

On Instagram, she shared a photo of herself enjoying the beautiful weather, writing, “Roaming the streets in #Nantes. Perfect weather. Had screenings of #Ankur and #Mandi to packed audiences. #ShyamBenegal wish you were here.”

This festival celebrates filmmakers and films from Asia, Africa, and Latin America, highlighting their remarkable contributions to storytelling.

Azmi is being honored with a special retrospective that marks her impressive 50-year career in Hindi cinema. The event features screenings of her notable films, including Ankur and Mandi.

The retrospective will showcase some of her most celebrated works, such as Ankur, Mandi, Masoom, and Arth, paying tribute to her extraordinary talent.

Her films have a long-standing connection with audiences in France, where she has garnered recognition at prestigious venues like the Centre Pompidou and the Cinémathèque. Notably, her film Godmother was the opening night feature at the Nantes Festival des 3 Continents.

On the professional front, Shabana was last seen in the 2023 film “Ghoomer,” alongside Saiyami Kher and Abhishek Bachchan. The film tells the story of Anina, a young cricket prodigy who loses her right hand prior to her international debut. A former cricketer then enters her life, offering her hope and innovative training to become a bowler for the Indian cricket team.

Next, Azmi will appear in “Lahore 1947,” a period drama directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan. Set during the partition of India in 1947, the film features Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, and Preity Zinta in leading roles.
