Mumbai: Former Maharashtra Minister and former Mumbai BJP President Raj K. Purohit passed away in Mumbai on Saturday following a prolonged illness. He was 71. Purohit breathed his last at a private hospital in the city, according to party sources.
Last Rites at Chandanwadi, Public Homage at Marine Drive
Party sources said Purohit’s mortal remains will be kept for public homage at Rajhans Building on Marine Drive, allowing party workers, well-wishers and citizens to pay their final respects. His last rites will be performed later at Muktidham, Chandanwadi.
CM Fadnavis Recalls His Political Legacy
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed deep sorrow over the demise of the senior BJP leader. In a post on X, he described Purohit as a strong organisational pillar of the party. Fadnavis recalled that Purohit served as an MLA for over 25 years, representing Mumbadevi four times and Colaba once, and played a key role in strengthening and expanding the BJP in Mumbai. He also noted Purohit’s popularity within the business community and said his demise has left a major void in the BJP family.
