Faridkot Police Bust Major Heroin Trafficking Network

Faridkot Police Bust Major Heroin Trafficking Network

In a significant anti-narcotics operation, Punjab Policeโ€™s Faridkot Police dismantled a well-organized heroin trafficking network following a two-month-long jail-based interception operation. The crackdown led to the arrest of six accused, including one serving Army personnel and one dismissed police personnel, highlighting the deep and alarming penetration of drug syndicates.

Huge Seizure of Drugs, Weapon and Vehicles

During the operation, police recovered 4.8 kg of heroin, one weapon, and two vehicles a Thar and an XUV allegedly used for transporting and facilitating drug consignments. Officials said the quantity seized indicates inter-district and possibly inter-state trafficking, rather than local peddling.

Accused Linked to Multiple NDPS Cases

Investigations have revealed that the arrested individuals are habitual offenders, with involvement in multiple cases under the NDPS Act. Police said the gang operated in a structured manner, using jailed operatives to coordinate activities outside prison through intermediaries, making the network both resilient and difficult to detect.

Jail-Based Coordination Exposed

According to senior officials, the network was being remotely controlled from inside jail, with instructions passed to associates on the outside regarding procurement, storage and delivery of heroin. The two-month interception of communications proved crucial in mapping the hierarchy and identifying key operatives.

FIR Registered, Wider Probe Underway

An FIR has been registered under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages of the racket. Police teams are tracing the source of the heroin, financial transactions, and possible cross-border or interstate connections.

Punjab Police Reiterate Zero-Tolerance on Drugs
