Faridkot: In a case of extortion and firing in Faridkot district of Punjab, a criminal belonging to the Bambiha gang had an encounter with the police. The police had taken the criminal for weapon recovery, who tried to escape by firing at the police. But in the retaliatory action, he was injured and caught.
SSP Dr. Pragya Jain said- In the month of July, miscreants associated with a gang in the Kotkapura area had demanded extortion of one crore rupees from a person. When the money was not received, firing was done outside his house on the night of 1 September. In this regard, a case was registered in City Police Station Kotkapura and investigation was started.
Gangster brought from Faridkot jail on production warrant
During the investigation, on the basis of technical inputs and intelligence, the police arrested two accused, residents of Moga, on September 7. These include Sandeep Singh alias Lovely and Ramjot Singh alias Jot.
During interrogation of the miscreants, it was revealed that this action was taken at the behest of gangsters Simma Bahibal and Jass Bahibal. The weapons used in the incident were provided by Malkit Singh, who was brought from Faridkot jail on a production warrant.
Cases were registered against the accused earlier also
During police remand, accused Ramjot had admitted that he had hidden the .32 bore pistol used in the crime on Dhilwan-Siviyan road. When police took him there for recovery, he suddenly tried to escape and opened fire on police. Police immediately retaliated in which he was injured and arrested.
The police also recovered a pistol and live cartridges from the spot. According to police records, Ramjot has already been named in three serious cases including drug smuggling and Arms Act. Five cases are already registered against Malkit Singh and one case against Sandeep Singh.
