In Haryana, farmer organizations, under the banner of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha have launched protests across several districts against the new procurement rules for crops during the Rabi season. A decision has also been taken to halt weighing operations at the Mandis (agricultural markets) daily from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Farmers block Sirsa highway, occupy Hansi toll; clash with DSP
In Sirsa, farmers are staging a sit-in directly on the highway near the Bhavdin toll plaza, while in Hansi farmers have occupied the Ramayan toll plaza, effectively blocking all traffic lanes. A heated argument also ensued between the farmers and the DSP who arrived at the scene.
Farmers’ protests have also erupted in Panipat, Kaithal, Yamunanagar and Fatehabad. In Hisar, a scuffle broke out between the police and farmers who had gathered to block the highway. The farmers remain adamant about blocking the highway; consequently, the police have diverted traffic routes.
It is worth noting that the farmer organizations had given the government until April 10 to withdraw the new rules. However, as the government failed to take any decision regarding the matter, the organizations subsequently issued a call for a protest movement.
