FIR Against Punjabi University VC & Officials Over Alleged Sacrilege of Mahan Kosh

Punjab: A major controversy has erupted at Punjabi University, Patiala, after an FIR was registered against the Vice-Chancellor Jagdeep Singh, Registrar Davinder Singh, Dean Academic Affairs Davinderpal Singh, and Publications Bureau In-charge Harjinderpal Singh.

The case, lodged at Urban Estate Police Station, Patiala, pertains to the alleged sacrilege of the historic encyclopedia Mahan Kosh. It is alleged that multiple copies of the revered work were dumped and buried, sparking widespread anger among students and scholars.

Following the revelation, students staged protests on campus, demanding strict action against those responsible and questioning the university’s respect towards cultural and literary heritage.

The incident has deeply hurt sentiments, as Mahan Kosh, compiled by Bhai Kahn Singh Nabha, is considered one of the most significant works in Sikh literature and Punjabi heritage.

Police have confirmed the registration of the case, and further investigations are underway. The controversy has now placed the university administration under intense public and political scrutiny.
