Gurdaspur: Three suspected criminals opened fire on a pursuing police team in the Dana Mandi area of Dera Baba Nanak town in Gurdaspur district, Punjab, on Wednesday. Police, led by DSP Joga Singh, immediately responded and cordoned off the area. With the help of local residents, two of the suspects were apprehended, while the third managed to escape.
According to police, three masked youths on a motorcycle were roaming around under suspicious circumstances. Police, suspecting them, pursued them. Meanwhile, the accused reached Dana Mandi and opened fire on the police team. No police personnel or civilians were reported injured in the incident.
Seeing the police, the accused fled towards Dana Mandi
DSP Joga Singh stated that SHO Ashok Kumar of Dera Baba Nanak police station received a tip-off that three masked youths were roaming around the area on a motorcycle. Acting swiftly, the police team immediately began pursuing them.
Upon seeing the police vehicle, the three youths fled towards Dana Mandi. Police officers attempted to surround them and apprehend them inside the market, but the accused opened fire directly on the police team. The police retaliated.
During this time, local youths present at the scene assisted the police. A joint effort by police and local residents led to the apprehension of two suspects.
Search Operation in Search of Third Accused Hiding in the Bushes
According to police, after the shooting, the third accused hid among dense bushes and trees in Dana Mandi. Police have cordoned off the entire area and launched a search operation to apprehend him.
According to DSP Joga Singh, police teams are searching for the absconding accused and efforts are being made to arrest him soon.
The accused may also be linked to the crime that occurred last night
Preliminary investigations suggest that the two arrested accused may also be involved in a criminal incident that occurred in the area last night. However, the police have not yet confirmed this.
DSP Joga Singh stated that a detailed investigation is underway and the arrested accused are being interrogated. Only after the investigation is complete will the roles of the accused and the possible criminal network be revealed.
