Firozpur: An incident of indiscriminate firing was reported on Saturday night in Betu Kadim village under the Mamdot area of Firozpur district, creating panic in the entire region.
The injured were identified as Ajay and Akash, sons of a former village sarpanch. Both brothers were shot by assailants and sustained serious injuries.
8–10 Assailants Arrive in Car, Open Fire
According to police, eight to ten attackers arrived in a car and opened fire, discharging around four to five rounds at the brothers before fleeing the scene.
Family members immediately rushed the injured to a nearby hospital. Due to their critical condition and excessive bleeding, doctors referred both brothers to Faridkot Medical College.
Doctors stated that both brothers suffered one gunshot wound each. Their condition remains critical, and they are undergoing treatment at the higher medical center.
CCTV Footage Captures Entire Incident
The entire firing incident was captured on CCTV cameras. One injured brother told doctors that seven to eight people, including Babbu Khullar, were involved in the firing.
Old Rivalry Behind Attack, Claims Former Sarpanch
The former sarpanch claimed the attack was due to a long-standing rivalry. He said a dispute between the two parties had occurred in 2018, which was later settled in a sessions court.
According to the family, gunfire had also occurred earlier during a sarpanch election, and the current attack is believed to be a continuation of that dispute.
After receiving information, police teams reached the spot, collected evidence, and recorded statements from the injured and their family members.
CCTV Footage Being Scanned to Identify Accused
Police are scanning government CCTV cameras installed in the area to identify and arrest the attackers. Officials said the investigation is underway from multiple angles.
