Heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh, flood warning, 4 children swept away in Una, 3 bodies recovered; Chandigarh-Manali highway damaged

Shimla: The situation in Himachal Pradesh has worsened due to heavy rains. Roads have broken, highways have caved in, while children in Una have been swept away in flood waters. Bodies of three of them have been recovered. The rain that started on Sunday in most parts of Himachal Pradesh is still continuing. The Meteorological Department has also warned of heavy rains and floods in Himachal Pradesh.

The Chandigarh-Manali national highway has sunk more than 4 feet in Pandoh of Mandi. One lane has sunk at the scissors turn of Diod, about 5 km from Mandi. Due to this, traffic has been stopped on the sunken lane.

Officials of the National Highway Authority of India are trying to level the road by adding soil. But due to the sinking of the road, the highway has become unsafe for vehicles. The ground under the culvert on the four-lane is continuously sinking. After this, the traffic is being run one way here.

Chandigarh Manali Highway Damaged in Mandi Distrcit

Landslides have been occurring in 9 Mile for the last four days and traffic has to be stopped here repeatedly. As soon as the rain starts in 9 Mile, debris from the hills starts falling on the road. Due to this, tourists visiting Kullu-Manali along with the local people are also facing problems.

Mandi-Dharampur NH has also been closed due to landslides in Suradi and Kumharda along with Kotli. Restoration work is underway. Due to its closure, 20 panchayats of Kotli have lost contact with Dharampur. 90 roads have been blocked for traffic and electricity is also out at many places in Mandi districts.

4 children were swept away in the flood in Bathri, Una. The bodies of 3 of them have been recovered, while 1 is still missing. The deceased have been identified as Rashi Kumari (7), Manisha (18) and Tanu (4). All three girls are from Bihar. Their family members work in a factory in Bathu-Bathri.

Una district has suffered the most damage due to waterlogging. 356 electricity transformers, 11 roads and 56 drinking water and irrigation schemes have also been affected. 5 houses and 5 cow sheds have also been damaged.

In Kangra’s Thural area, heavy rains caused waterlogging in Thural market. Rainwater entered many houses and shops. Due to this, shopkeepers’ goods worth lakhs of rupees were damaged and people had to face difficulty in walking.

Sirmaur district is also receiving heavy rains for the last two days. Hanuman temple got submerged in the Markanda river due to floods. More than 40 roads are closed due to heavy rains. In other areas also, more than 300 roads have been closed for vehicles after heavy rains.
