Chandigarh: Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar on Wednesday criticised the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government over alleged irregularities in paddy procurement, accusing it of exploiting farmers and commission agents in border districts, particularly Gurdaspur and Fazilka.
In a statement, Jakhar questioned the state government’s claim of being an honest administration and alleged that deductions of 6 to 8 kg per quintal were being made during paddy procurement in areas such as Abohar.
He said the Central government had already provided advance funds for paddy procurement and that the state government was required to procure the crop for the Centre.
Jakhar also alleged that commission agents were being charged separately for every bag in the name of lifting.
Targeting Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the BJP leader asked why such deductions and alleged collections were taking place despite the funds being provided in advance.
