A controversy has arisen regarding the government accommodation earmarked for the SSP in Shimla. Shimla SSP Gaurav Singh has been waiting for a government accommodation for the past three months. It is reported that Sanjeev Gandhi is currently living in the government accommodation earmarked for the SSP.
Posted in Shimla in February
The state government appointed Gaurav Singh as the SSP of Shimla on February 9, 2026. Prior to this, he was posted as the SP in Solan. After his posting to Shimla, he continued to commute to Solan for some time, but about two months ago, he vacated the Solan government accommodation.
Questions raised on administrative system
The SSP’s government accommodation is not just a place to live, but is considered a crucial operational center for law and order matters. Given VVIP movements, protests, and security arrangements in the capital, Shimla, a permanent government residence is considered essential. In such a situation, questions are being raised about the SSP’s functioning without a government residence.
Residence Not Vacated Despite Rules
According to rules, an officer must vacate a government residence within approximately 30 days of transfer. However, additional time may be granted in special circumstances. Regarding this matter, Sanjeev Gandhi says that he has not yet been allotted new accommodation, so he is currently living in the same residence.
Questions also raised about the GAD and the government
Government residences are allocated by the General Administration Department (GAD). Questions are also being raised about the functioning of the department and the government regarding this matter. Earlier, the Himachal Pradesh High Court had also expressed displeasure over the allocation of government accommodation.
