Chandigarh: The Punjab government has appointed Gaurav Yadav as the state’s regular Director General of Police (DGP), with a minimum tenure of two years. An official order confirming the appointment was issued on Friday, formalising his appointment to the top police post in Punjab.

The appointment was made after the state government considered the panel submitted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The panel featured three Indian Police Service (IPS) officers who were considered for the position of Punjab DGP.

Gaurav Yadav’s appointment marks the formalisation of the state police leadership through the selection process involving the UPSC panel. The order specifies that the appointed DGP will have a minimum tenure of two years from the date of assuming office.

UPSC Panel Included Three IPS Officers

According to the official order, the UPSC prepared a panel of three IPS officers for the appointment of Punjab’s regular DGP. Apart from Gaurav Yadav, the panel included Dr Sharad Satya Chauhan and Harpreet Singh Sidhu.

The three officers were named in the panel submitted to the Punjab government for consideration. The state government subsequently made the appointment after considering the names recommended through the UPSC process.

The inclusion of the three officers in the panel formed part of the procedure leading to the appointment. Following consideration of the panel, Gaurav Yadav was appointed to the position of regular Director General of Police.

Punjab Government Issues Official Appointment Order

The appointment order was issued on Friday, confirming Gaurav Yadav’s selection as Punjab’s regular DGP. The order also outlined the minimum tenure attached to the post, providing that the DGP would serve for at least two years from the date of assuming office.

The two-year tenure provision is an important aspect of the appointment order, as it specifies the minimum period for which the officer will hold the position, calculated from the date he formally assumes charge.

With the issuance of the order, the Punjab government has formally announced Gaurav Yadav’s appointment as the state’s regular police chief. Dr Sharad Satya Chauhan and Harpreet Singh Sidhu were the other two officers included in the UPSC panel considered for the appointment.

The appointment and tenure details have been specified in the government order, which confirms Gaurav Yadav’s position as Punjab’s regular Director General of Police.
