The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has imposed a ₹10 lakh fine on e-commerce platform Xboom for listing and promoting anti-drone systems, drone jammers, and GPS jammers without clearly specifying the required regulatory information and approval conditions.
The CCPA issued this order on September 17, 2026. The matter arose from a suo motu action initiated by the authority. The investigation found that six products were listed on Xboom’s website under the “Anti-Drone” category. These included the X-Mini, X-Radar XK2, X-Eye, X-Gun XK4, RF-Patrol XK2, and XGuard.
Allegations of not providing necessary information about the products
According to the CCPA, the listings for these products mentioned their jamming and signal interference capabilities, but did not clarify that such devices are subject to regulatory restrictions and require government approval.
The authority stated that the lack of necessary information could lead people to believe that purchasing and using these devices is generally legal and freely available.
Xboom, meanwhile, argued that it operates on an inquiry-based model and that these products were not for general consumers, but for government agencies, the armed forces, and authorized defense institutions.
However, the CCPA stated that displaying these products on the website also constitutes advertising under the relevant consumer protection law.
Xboom Directed to Compliance
In addition to the ₹10 lakh fine, the CCPA has directed Xboom not to list or promote anti-drone systems, drone jammers, GPS jammers, or other wireless jamming devices without prominently displaying the necessary approvals and licensing information.
The platform has also been directed to implement a verifiable KYC and end-use authorization system to ensure such devices are made available only to verified government, defense, and law enforcement entities.
Xboom has been directed to submit a compliance report to the CCPA within 15 days of the order.
This action comes amid increased regulatory scrutiny of the listing and sale of banned or controlled wireless jamming devices on online platforms.
