Gurdaspur: A tragic incident occurred in Nangal Jhour village in the Sri Hargobindpur Sahib area of Gurdaspur district, Punjab. Two cousins, Rajan Masih (28) and Jagraj Masih (35), were electrocuted while spraying pesticide on a paddy crop.
The deceased were identified as Rajan Masih (28), son of Kashmir Masih, and Jagraj Masih (35), son of Amrik Masih, residents of village Gill Manjh.
An electric pole fell in the field
According to reports, the two brothers, along with two other friends, had gone to spray the fields of village farmer Inderjit Singh. It is alleged that the farm owner did not inform them that a power pole had fallen in the field and its wires were scattered.
While spraying, Rajan’s foot suddenly touched an electrical wire, electrocuting him. Jagraj stepped forward to save him, but he too was electrocuted. Both died on the spot. The deceased’s mother, Kanta, said that Rajan was her son, and Jagraj was her sister’s son.
The family alleges negligence and demands compensation.
The family blames the farmer and the electricity department for the accident. They say that if timely information had been provided and the damaged pole repaired, the tragedy could have been avoided. The deceased’s wives, children, and elderly mother are inconsolable.
The bodies were sent for postmortem
Both families have demanded that the administration take strict action against those responsible and provide compensation to the victims’ families. Harchowal outpost in-charge ASI Sarwan Singh said, “Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and the police are taking further action after recording statements from the deceased’s companions.” This incident has cast a pall of grief over the entire area.
