Haridwar : Two tourists drowned while bathing in the Ganga Canal in Haridwar. According to reports, the two young men had gone to bathe when they suddenly slipped and were swept away by the strong current.
Accident caused by being swept away by the strong current
Upon receiving information about the incident, the SDRF team arrived at the scene and immediately launched a search operation. After considerable effort, the team recovered the bodies of both. The accident occurred on March 26 in the Piran Kaliyar area of Roorkee.
Rescue operation lasted for several days
The search for the young men continued for the past five days. The body of one young man was found on March 29, while the body of the other was recovered late on March 30.
The young men had come from Kashipur and Delhi for a trip
According to the SDRF, the deceased have been identified as Mohsin (17), a resident of Kashipur, and Asif (18), a resident of Delhi. Both had come to Kaliyar for a Friday visit before Eid.
Bodies sent for postmortem
A continuous search was conducted from Kaliyar to Mohammadpur Jhal. Following an operation led by SDRF team in-charge Ashish Tyagi, the bodies were recovered and handed over to the police, and further legal proceedings are underway.
