Harmanpreet Kaur & Yuvraj Singh Honoured With Stadium Stands

In a unique tribute to Indian cricket legends, stands named after Harmanpreet Kaur and Yuvraj Singh were officially inaugurated at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur (New Chandigarh) ahead of the second T20 International between India and South Africa on Thursday. The unveiling adds a special significance to the match, which is the first men’s international game being staged at the venue.

Celebrating Cricket Icons from India

The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) chose to honour two of India’s most influential cricket figures by naming stadium stands after them. Yuvraj Singh, the former Indian all-rounder and two-time World Cup winner, has been recognized for his exceptional contributions to Indian cricket, while Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain who led India’s women’s team to their first-ever ICC Women’s World Cup title in 2025, becomes one of the first women cricketers in North India to receive such a distinction.

Punjab Cricket Association president Amarjit Singh Mehta and other PCA officials were present for the ceremony. The installation of these stands is seen as an inspiration for young cricketers and a tribute to the stars’ achievements on the global stage.

A Special Occasion for the Venue

The unveiling ceremony coincided with a landmark occasion — the second T20I match of the India vs South Africa series, which marks the first time the stadium will host a men’s international fixture. With tickets nearly sold out, the atmosphere at Mullanpur is expected to be electric as supporters witness both high-level cricket and this historic honour for the two cricket icons.

Officials also emphasised that these dedications reflect the growing importance of cricket in the region and highlight how contributions from both men’s and women’s players are being celebrated on equal footing.
