Chandigarh: In senior Haryana IPS officer Puran Kumar’s Suicide Case, a major development has emerged. Based on the contents of the suicide note on Thursday night, an FIR has been registered against 14 officers, including Haryana DGP Shatrughan Kapoor and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarnia.
The Chandigarh Police registered FIR No. 156 at the Sector 11 Police Station under Sections 108 and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 3(1)(r) of the SC/ST Act.
Interestingly, until Thursday, Puran Kumar’s family had accused 15 officers, including Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi. However, his name is absent from the FIR filed now.
This marks the first instance in Haryana’s history where an FIR has been registered against 14 high-ranking police and administrative officials, including the state’s DGP, in a single case.
Dispute Over FIR Format and Accused Names
IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar, a close colleague of late IPS officer Puran Kumar, has objected to the FIR. He applied to the Chandigarh Police, pointing out that the names of the accused officers were not listed in a separate column, as mandated by the FIR format.
Sources indicate that Amneet Kumar had a heated exchange with Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur over the issue. Following this, uncertainty surrounds the postmortem proceedings of the deceased IPS officer. Meanwhile, Dalit organisations have demanded the arrest of the DGP and Rohtak SSP named in the case.
Dalit Officers Rally Behind Puran Kumar’s Family
In a rare show of solidarity, SC-category IAS, IPS, and HCS officers within the Haryana bureaucracy have come out openly in support of Puran Kumar’s family.
They allege that several senior officers were displeased with Puran Kumar’s appointment as IG, Rohtak Range, and had been trying to undermine him. The same officers, they claim, harassed him for years, denying him seniority-based promotions and assigning him low-profile postings.
