A horrific road accident occurred on Tuesday evening, around 7 p.m., near Rampuri village on the Bareilly-Dahina road. A speeding car rear-ended three women walking on the roadside. Two of the women died on the spot, while the third was seriously injured.
The deceased women were Bhateri Devi (60) and Santara Devi (60), local residents of Rampuri. The car is said to be owned by a retired Tata police officer. However, this is yet to be officially confirmed.
According to preliminary information, the three women were on their way to the village to buy milk and were preparing for the Holi festival when a speeding vehicle came from behind and struck them. Upon impact, the women fell to the ground, and two died on the spot. One injured woman reportedly suffered a fractured leg and remains in critical condition.
Angry villagers blocked the road
Chaos prevailed at the scene following the accident. Nearby villagers immediately rushed to the scene and rushed the injured woman to a nearby private hospital. Kosli DSP Vidyanand arrived at the scene upon receiving the information. He tried to reason with the villagers, but they refused to budge. The villagers remained unmoved until late at night. They stated that the number of speeding vehicles on this route is increasing, yet no concrete measures have been taken to control the speed. They demanded the immediate arrest of the accused driver and compensation for the families of the deceased.
