14 Kanwariyas electrocuted in Faridabad, one dies: Tragic incident during pilgrimage

Faridabad: 14 Kanwariyas came in contact with high-tension wire in the Faridabad district of Haryana. One youth died in the accident. While other injured youths have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. The deceased has been identified as Nitin (20), son of Azad.

The accident happened during the preparation to take the Dak Kavad in Nawada, adjacent to Tigaon in the district. Nitin’s neighbour Jaiprakash told him that about 14 Kanwariyas of the village were preparing to go to Haridwar to take the Dak Kavad this evening. Due to this, they had booked a canter. The Kanwariyas were coming to Tigaon this morning from Ballabhgarh after decorating the canter with the DJ. From where they had to leave for Haridwar this evening.

Jaiprakash said that as soon as his canter reached near Shiv College in Nawada, near Tigaon. Meanwhile, the canter came into contact with 11 thousand high-voltage electricity wires, and about 14 Kanwariyas sitting on it got badly burned. Many even fell from the canter.

All were admitted to a private hospital in Tigaon for treatment in a hurry. But seeing Nitin’s critical condition there, the doctors asked his family to take him to a bigger hospital. After this, Nitin’s family took him to a private hospital in Faridabad. Where the doctors declared him dead as soon as they saw him.

According to Jaiprakash, Nitin had three siblings, out of which Nitin was the youngest in the house. He had left his studies and worked as a labourer. He said that all the Kanwariyas had to reach Haridwar today and they had to return on the 2nd on the day of Shivratri. But this accident happened before leaving today. After this accident, there is an atmosphere of grief in the entire village.

Jaiprakash told me that the electricity wires were very low. The village sarpanch complained about this to the department, but due to the negligence of the electricity department, these wires were not raised.
