In its ongoing drive against corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested a private person, Dharampal, a resident of village Asmanpur, Pehowa, Haryana, red handed while accepting bribe of Rs. 3 lakh.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said that the accused was arrested based on a complaint lodged by a resident of the same village. The spokesperson further said that the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau and alleged that he was being harassed and repeatedly summoned to the Pattran Police Station due to a false complaint lodged against him by a resident of Pattran.

The said accused, Dharampal, was acting as a middleman for money transactions between the complainant and some police officers. The complainant disclosed that he was forced to pay a bribe of Rs. 2 lakh to the police officers through accused Dharampal. Similarly, another demand of Rs. 4 lakh was made, but later the deal was settled for Rs. 3 lakh.

The spokesperson further informed that after preliminary investigation of the complaint, the team of Vigilance Bureau laid a trap and arrested the accused Dharam Pal red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 3 lakh from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses. In this regard, an FIR has been registered against the accused under Prevention of Corruption Act at Police Station Patiala Range of Vigilance Bureau and further investigation is underway.
