Dallewal strike enters Day 53: Farmers claim misleading facts presented in SC, 20 Kg weight lost

Khanauri: Kisan leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is on an indefinite hunger strike unto death at the Khanauri border between Punjab and Haryana, has entered the 53rd day of his hunger strike today (Friday). Dallewal has lost 20 kilograms of weight.

When he first began his hunger strike, his weight was 86 kg 950 grams, but now it has dropped to 66 kg 400 grams. Meanwhile, 111 people who started their own hunger strike in support of Dallewal at the Khanoori border have entered the third day of their strike.

Government and police teams have met with Dallewal. Farmers’ leaders expressed surprise that the Punjab government’s lawyer claimed in the Supreme Court that Dallewal’s health is improving.

The farmers’ leaders asked, “Does health improve or worsen by sitting on a hunger strike?” They sarcastically added that if hunger strikes improve health, then all hospitals across the country should be closed and sick people should be made to sit on hunger strikes to improve their health.

Dallewal’s Health Report as per Farmers

According to Dallewal’s latest medical report, the result of kidney and liver-related tests is 1.75, which should normally be less than 1.00. Farmers’ leaders said the government is deliberately presenting test results to the Supreme Court that take longer to show a decline. For example, hemoglobin is found in red blood cells, and the average lifespan of red blood cells is 120 days. Therefore, no decline in hemoglobin has been observed in the 52 days of fasting.

As for the ketone body test, it should normally be between 0.02-0.27 in a healthy person, but Dallewal’s result has consistently been over 6.50. However, such test results have not been presented to the Supreme Court.
