Farmers stage sit-in protest at Hisar Mini Secretariat; Demand withdrawal of agricultural marketing policy

On the call of the Sanyukta Kisan Morcha, farmers staged a sit-in protest at the Mini Secretariat in Hisar, Haryana on Tuesday. The farmers submitted an 11-point demand letter to the district administration. Farmer leader Shamsher Nambardar said that the major demands of the farmers of the country are pending for a long time.

Demand for cancellation of stubble burning cases

The main demand of the farmers is that the National Policy Framework on Agricultural Marketing issued by the Central Government on November 25 should be withdrawn by passing a resolution in the Haryana Legislative Assembly. Other major demands of the farmers include cancellation of electricity law and smart meter scheme. There has been a demand to withdraw all the cases registered against the farmers during the farmers’ movement. There is also a demand to cancel the case registered in the case of stubble burning.

Drought relief fund arrears

The farmer leader said that there has been a demand to give bonus on other crops including wheat of Rabi 2025. There is a demand to pay the outstanding drought relief fund of Kharif 2024. There has also been a demand to compensate for the crops damaged by the recent hailstorm. Farmer leaders have demanded to start mustard procurement soon, to free farmers and laborers from debt and to release pending electricity tubewell connections.

Fury is increasing among farmers due to non-resolution of demands. Farmer leaders have announced that they will gherao the Chief Minister’s residence on March 20 with their demands.
