Hisar: Haryana’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded a change in the dates of the assembly elections. Regarding this, BJP state president Mohan Lal Baroli has sent a letter to the Central Election Commission. He has given two major reasons including holidays for the change in the dates of elections.
The Election Commission had announced elections in Haryana on 16 August. Voting will be held on October 1 and counting of votes will be done on October 4.
Mohan Lal Baroli has written in the letter that the dates of elections should be changed because this is a holiday time and many people go out. Apart from this, there is also a religious ritual of Bishnoi community which will affect the voting percentage.
Baroli said that the 28th is Saturday and the 29th is Sunday. Voting will be held on 1 October, while 2 October is a holiday on Gandhi Jayanti. At the same time, there is a holiday on Agrasen Jayanti on 3 October. In such a situation, due to the 6-day long weekend, people can go on holidays and such long gap can impact the voting percentage.
He further added that the Election Commission also has a priority of 100 percent voting. Therefore, the election dates should be extended so that the voting percentage can increase.
