Haryana Health Minister inaugurates SNCU in Gurugram; Neo natal death rate reduces

Gurugram: Haryana Health Minister Dr Kamal Gupta virtually inaugurated the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) at the Civil Hospital located at Sub-Divisional Hospital Sohna on Monday to strengthen the infrastructure of the health sector in the Gurugram district of Haryana. It is built for 41 lakhs, this unit will be able to treat 14 children at a time. This unit is equipped with advanced incubators, comprehensive monitoring systems, special treatment areas for critical care, a dedicated team of neonatal health professionals, and other modern equipment.

Health Minister Dr Kamal Gupta said that this unit will prove to be effective in preventing neonatal mortality. This unit will provide intensive care to newborns with serious health conditions such as premature birth, low birth weight, infection, and obstruction of breathing at birth. Highlighting the government’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and services in Haryana, he said that this initiative is part of a comprehensive effort to ensure that every child born in the state gets the best possible start in life.

The Health Minister said that the infant mortality rate, which is increasing every year, can be reduced through timely, better treatment for the newborn. For this, people also need to be made aware.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Virendra Yadav informed the Health Minister about other key aspects of the unit and said that this SNCU is dedicated to providing special care for newborns requiring intensive medical care. The unit is equipped with advanced medical technology and has a team of highly skilled neonatologists, nurses, and support staff, ensuring the highest standards of care for the most vulnerable patients.

He said that the establishment of SNCU is a big step towards improving newborn healthcare in the Sohna area. It aims to reduce infant mortality rates and increase the quality of care for newborns. The unit is equipped with these facilities; the civil surgeon said that the unit has 14 radiant warmers, 4 units of LED phototherapy, and 6 pulse oximeters. At the same time, a pediatrician, nine nursing officers, and two medical officers are providing their services 24 hours a day for the care of newborns.
