Haryana: Over 51 thousand farmers incur huge loss due to unseasonal rain and hailstorm

Karnal: Rains and hailstorms in Haryana last month have caused losses to nearly 51 thousand farmers of the state. This was revealed when farmers filed claims on the e-compensation portal for crop loss compensation from the government. In view of the increasing number of farmers and bad weather, the government had extended the last date for filing claims on the portal to February 5.

So far, farmers from nine districts have filed compensation claims for the damage caused to Rabi crops due to hailstorms and heavy rains last month.

Affected farmers who are not registered under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBVI) will get compensation under the state government policy. However, registration on the Meri Fasal Mera Byora portal is mandatory to get relief.

Total crop damage has been in 2,62,886 acres in 1,756 villages of the state. The highest number of claims have come from Charkhi Dadri. Here 12,962 farmers from 168 villages have reported 63,695 acres of crop damage, followed by 7,173 farmers from 249 villages in Hisar who have reported 43,779 acres of damage. In Gurugram, 7,152 farmers from 162 villages have reported 32,691 acres of damage. In Rewari, 6,982 farmers from 281 villages, more than 31,040 acres have been affected.

At the same time, 6,800 farmers from 339 villages of Mahendragarh district have reported 28,115 acres of damage. 6,093 farmers from 220 villages of Jhajjar district, covering 32,734 acres, Fatehabad – 2,657 farmers from 143 villages, have reported 18,359 acres of damage.

Whereas in Palwal district, 1,792 farmers from 190 villages have been affected over 10,188 acres. In Rohtak district, 314 farmers from four villages have reported loss of 2,280 acres of land.
