Haryana Roadways employees call off the strike

Kurukshetra:  Buses remained missing from the roads on Wednesday due to the strike by roadways employees over the murder of a bus driver in Haryana’s Ambala district. Due to the strike, people had to face a lot of trouble in traveling on the festival of Bhai Dooj. The employees ended their strike after a meeting with Haryana Transport Minister Moolchand Sharma in Chandigarh on Wednesday night. After the meeting, the minister said that normal services will resume from Wednesday night itself. The employees started the strike from midnight on Tuesday demanding the arrest of the attackers and compensation to the victim’s family.

Police had said that Haryana Roadways bus driver Rajveer (51) died after being attacked by unknown people in Ambala on the night of November 12. Police said that after the attack, Rajveer, a resident of Sonipat, was admitted to Ambala Cantonment in critical condition. He was brought to Civil Hospital and later referred to PGIMER, Chandigarh. But he died during treatment.

The body will be taken to his native village for last rites on Thursday morning. After a meeting with the representatives of Haryana Roadways Employees Sanjha Union, Transport Minister Sharma said that the state government will support the family of the deceased in their hour of grief.  An official release quoting Sharma said that the driver’s son will be given a government job on the basis of his merit. He also said that financial assistance will also be provided to the driver’s family.
