Panipat: In Haryana, SP Ajit Singh Shekhawat of Panipat has taken strict cognizance after the police came to know policemen involved in the release of deals with drug smugglers. He has suspended five policemen, including an SI. All these policemen were posted in CIA-2. They are accused of bargaining with drug smugglers for Rs 30 lakh.
According to the police officer, the accused released one of the accused caught in drug smuggling, while the amount of drugs recovered from the other accused was shown to be less. Under the deal, the policemen collected 22 lakh rupees from the smugglers, and 8 lakh rupees were yet to be taken.
Upon getting information about this, the Superintendent of Police got the matter investigated. On finding the allegations true prima facie, the Superintendent of Police suspended the then CIA-2 station in-charge Saurabh, Havildar Umed and Puneet, and constables Deepak and Mandeep. Along with this, instructions have also been given for departmental investigations.
On May 9, the team of CIA-2 Panipat arrested Sumit alias Monu, a resident of Chidi village in Rohtak, with 1.2 kg of opium. It is alleged that the CIA-2 team extorted lakhs of rupees from the accused in the case. After the matter came to light, the SP got it investigated at his level.
In the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that Ravindra of the same village was also carrying opium along with Sumit alias Monu. He had two and a half kg of opium. The police struck a deal with him for Rs 30 lakh and released Ravindra. Whereas, Sumit was arrested, and the recovery of opium from him was shown to be less.
After this, the police took Rs 22 lakh from the accused, while Rs 8 lakh was remaining. After this, on the orders of the SP, the accused Ravindra, a resident of Chidi village, was arrested again after 10 days. He revealed the whole matter to the police officers during interrogation. On this, the SP has taken action in the case.
It is known that the CIA team was caught earlier in the affair of saving drug smugglers. Last year, a huge consignment of drugs was caught in Rakseda village in Samalkha block. In this too, the police played a big game to save the smugglers. Then the SP took action at that time.
Saurabh is already suspended in the case of obstructing the action of the district judge.
Earlier on May 4, the District Judge had reached to inspect the CIA-2 police station, but the main gate of this police station was not opened for him. After the matter came to light, the SP suspended CIA-2 in-charge Saurabh, Sub Inspector Jaiveer, and Munshi. Whereas, the SPO posted at the gate was dismissed. After this, Sandeep, in charge of the anti-narcotics cell, has been posted to the police station.
