Chandigarh: The names of three IPS and three HPS officers were recommended by the Haryana government for gallantry awards. The central government has rejected those names. This information has been given by the central government during the hearing of a PIL filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The central government said that the names were recommended late. In such a situation, the said people will not be given awards. At the same time, the High Court has rejected the petition based on this information. These were the same officers who stopped the farmers of Punjab at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders during the Delhi march in February 2024.
As soon as the recommendation to give awards to these officers was made. There was tremendous opposition to it in Punjab. From farmers to all the politicians opposed it. After this, Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan wrote a letter to PM Narendra Modi on this matter.
He had said in the letter that the names sent by the Haryana Police for bravery awards should be reconsidered because these officers had stopped the farmers protesting at the Shambhu border from going to Delhi. He has written in the letter that before taking any decision, the situation on the Punjab-Haryana border in Shambhu should be kept in mind.
