Sonipat chaos: Police beaten after liquor shop closure sparks midnight clash

Sonipat: Police personnel were beaten up when they asked to close a liquor shop found open at midnight in Sonipat, Haryana. First, a person abused, then threw a stone in the face of the policeman. The SPO was held by the throat and beaten up, and his uniform was also torn. Police have identified both the attackers. Cases have been registered against both of them under various sections.

In a complaint given to Sonipat Civil Lines police station, Sonu of village Baroana said that he is posted as SPO in the police. He was on patrol on Old DC Road with constable Devendra on City Traffic Rider number two last night. When he passed near Bhagat Hospital at around 12.30 in the night, he saw that the liquor shop there was open. He stopped his bike and asked the employee present at the shop to close the shop.

After going some distance, a person standing on the road started abusing both of them. Meanwhile, that person picked up a stone from the road and hit SPO Sonu on the right side of his face. He got hurt due to this. After that, that person caught his throat and started beating him.

Sonu told him that the person had torn his uniform. When Constable Devendra tried to free him from that person, a young man came from inside the liquor shop and started beating Devendra and him. On this, he informed the police control room about the fight.

According to Civil Line Police Station SHO Satbir Singh, information was received from the police control room that a fight is going on near Bhagat Hospital on Old DC Road. After the information, ASI Manoj Kumar reached the spot. SPO Sonu and Constable Devendra were found present there. They said that they were beaten up during night patrolling.

Sonu was then taken to the civil hospital. Based on Sonu’s statement, the police have registered a case under sections 121(1), 132, 221, and 3(5) BNS at Civil Lines Sonipat police station.
