Red heat alert on voting day in Haryana: provision of cold water, ORS and coolers at polling booths

Chandigarh : The scorching heat in Haryana has created a big challenge for the voters. The temperature in the state has remained between 44 to 48 degrees from last 5 days.

The Meteorological Department has also issued a red alert of heat wave on May 25, the voting day. That means the maximum temperature on Saturday is expected to be between 44 to 47 degrees.

During this period, hot winds will also blow at a speed of 30 km per hour. In such a situation, voters will have to go through the ordeal of summer to achieve the target of record voting in Haryana.

More than 70 percent voting took place in the 2019 elections in Haryana. This time the target of voting has been set at 75 percent. However, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer has issued several guidelines to deal with the heat.

For the first time, there are instructions to arrange cold water along with installation of shed at all the polling booths of Haryana, along with arrangement for cold water, ORS solution, paramedical staff and ambulance will be also there.

An advisory has also been issued by the Election Commission for protection from the heat, in which it has been said that in view of the heat, there will be more crowd of voters in the morning and evening.

Voters have also been asked to drink enough water before leaving the house to cast their vote. Instructions have also been given not to leave children and pets in the vehicle parked in the parking lot.

Queue management app also activated
Apart from providing tents, fans, drinking water, queue management app has also been activated to protect people from heat wave during voting in Haryana. Through this app, the Booth Level Officer (BLO) posted at the booth centers will give information about how many people are standing in line at the center to vote, so that there is not too much crowd at the polling center at one time and the voter does not have long time to cast his vote.

Election strategy changed due to heat
In view of the increasing heat, political parties have also started making strategies. BJP is on alert in Haryana due to low voting in the last 5 phases. BJP has alerted its booth officials that they will take everyone to vote in the morning itself.

PM Modi himself has also appealed to everyone to vote in the morning during the rally in Ambala. He told people to vote first. After that he should have refreshments. Congress has also alerted its booth level officials.

This time 2.76 crore registered voters
This time 2 crore 76 thousand 441 voters will vote in Haryana. There will be a ban on mobile phones, electronic gadgets, electronic watches and spy cameras inside the polling booth. The Commission has said that this has the possibility of breaking the secrecy of voting.
It has also been clarified by the Commission that only the presiding officer will be allowed to keep the mobile. Voters should carry only identity documents with them.
