Two TGTs dismissed in Himachal for holding B.Ed degrees from unrecognised institute

Shimla, May 18: The education department has dismissed two female TGTs from their jobs for doing B.Ed from a non-recognised institute. The Directorate of School Education issued office orders on Saturday after a departmental inquiry. Both were appointed in July 2024.

The appointment orders of both the teachers posted in the Government Senior Secondary School, Kosari, Kangra and Baur School of Shimla district have been cancelled. Both were appointed on a batch basis. Both have a B.Ed degree from an institute in Haryana. The screening committee of the education department examined the degrees and other documents.

The education department had also written a letter to the additional chief secretary of education, Haryana government, seeking clarification in this regard. The director of elementary education, Haryana, replied that the University Grants Commission gives affiliation to any university and institute. UGC said that the right to confer or award a degree is only to a university established or incorporated by or under a central act, provincial act or state act or an institute deemed to be a university under section-3.

Haryana Vocational Training Council Hisar does not fall under any of the above categories of institutions. Both the teachers were issued notices in March 2025 and asked for their reply. The explanations of both were found unsatisfactory.
