Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir: The mortal remains of Havildar Mohd Iqbal of the Assam Rifles, who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty in Nagaland, were brought to his native village of Kallar Mohra in Poonch on Wednesday, where he was accorded a heartfelt farewell by Army personnel, family members and local residents.
A large number of people gathered at his residence to pay their last respects to the soldier, while Army personnel offered a solemn tribute in recognition of his dedicated service to the nation.
Son Pays Emotional Tribute, Vows to Join the Army
Speaking on the occasion, Fasal Iqbal, the son of the deceased soldier, said the family was proud of his father’s sacrifice for the country.
“We feel proud that he made the ultimate sacrifice for the country. I feel good knowing he did something truly right for the country and made that sacrifice. It is a matter of pride for all of us,” he said.
Inspired by his father’s courage and commitment, Fasal expressed his determination to join the armed forces.
“My resolve is to become a good officer, serve the country, and take revenge on the enemies,” he added.
Havildar Mohd Iqbal Died While on Duty in Nagaland
Havildar Mohd Iqbal was serving with the Assam Rifles in Nagaland when he lost his life while performing his official duties. Authorities have not released further details regarding the circumstances of his death.
His sacrifice has drawn tributes from fellow soldiers, local residents and members of the armed forces, who remembered him for his dedication and service.
Assam Rifles Continues to Honour Its Bravehearts
Earlier this month, on July 11, the Assam Rifles organised a wreath-laying ceremony at the Radhanagar Battalion in Tripura to honour Rifleman (GD) Govind Singh of 28 Assam Rifles, who laid down his life in the line of duty on July 10, 1996, during a counter-militancy operation in Jammu and Kashmir.
During the operation, launched on the basis of intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the Mandrala area, Rifleman Govind Singh displayed exceptional courage while engaging militants. He sustained gunshot injuries and later succumbed to them.
Senior officers, including the Commandant, Second-in-Command, Adjutant and Subedar Major, laid wreaths in his memory. The ceremony concluded with a two-minute silence, reaffirming the Assam Rifles’ commitment to honouring the legacy and sacrifices of its personnel.
