In a joint initiative, the World Health Organization (WHO) and India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare have launched a women’s health campaign on the Delhi Metro. Titled “Healthy Women = Healthy Nations” and tagged #BcozSheMatters, the month‑long campaign aims to raise awareness about the physical, mental, and social well‑being of women and girls. The program was inaugurated at the Sultanpur Metro Station in New Delhi on 10 December 2025, marking the beginning of the campaign across major metro stations and coaches.
Objectives and Focus Areas
The campaign seeks to reach millions of commuters with important messages on women’s health and rights. It emphasizes women’s safety, mental health support, and digital inclusion. Additionally, the initiative promotes awareness of legal safeguards, including the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, to discourage gender-based feticide. Public health issues such as tuberculosis (TB) awareness are also included, in alignment with the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
Officials Speak on the Initiative
According to MoHFW Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava, “When a woman is healthy, the family and the nation can remain healthy.” She noted that the Delhi Metro provides a high-visibility platform to connect directly with urban commuters. Dr Catharina Boehme, Officer-in-Charge, WHO South-East Asia, highlighted that healthy women are the backbone of strong families and communities. She added that the campaign also signals a transition from ending violence against women to actively promoting their health and well-being.
Campaign Duration and Reach
The campaign will run from December 2025 through January 2026, reaching millions of commuters every day. Messages are displayed inside metro coaches as well as at selected stations, ensuring broad exposure to the city’s population. By leveraging the metro network, the campaign ensures access to urban residents who might otherwise miss traditional health outreach programs.
Importance and Impact
The initiative underscores India’s commitment to holistic women’s health, combining physical health, mental well-being, legal awareness, and social empowerment under a single public campaign. Using the Delhi Metro as a medium not only maximizes reach but also engages diverse demographics, from students and working professionals to senior citizens. The program reflects a broader strategy to build healthier families and communities, ultimately contributing to a stronger, healthier nation.
