Amritpal Singh, MP from Punjab’s Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha constituency, has sought temporary parole to attend the winter session of Parliament. He is currently detained in Assam’s Dibrugarh jail under the National Security Act (NSA).
A petition was filed on his behalf in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, requesting an early hearing. The hearing is scheduled to begin today.
This appeal was filed before a division bench headed by Chief Justice Sheel Nagu. MP Amritpal Singh has sought temporary release to attend the Winter Session of Parliament (December 1 to 19). His lawyer cited Section 15 of the NSA, which allows parole under exceptional circumstances.
Under this provision, the Chief Justice questioned how he would attend the Parliament session unless his detention was stayed. The lawyer responded that the two cases were separate and that relief under Section 15 was being sought to attend Parliament.
