The weather forecast for the coming days in Himachal Pradesh has been released. Heatwave conditions are likely in the Una, Bilaspur, and Solan districts on June 9 and 10. Meanwhile, light to moderate rain and snowfall are expected at several locations on June 11 and 12. Light rainfall was recorded in isolated parts of the state over the last 24 hours. Tabo recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 5.2 degrees Celsius.
The maximum temperature in Una was recorded at 39.5 degrees Celsius. No significant change was observed in minimum temperatures, though maximum temperatures rose by 2 to 5 degrees Celsius in some areas. The Southwest Monsoon advanced into parts of the Bay of Bengal and the northeastern states on June 7. Conditions are favorable for the monsoon to advance into the central Arabian Sea and several other states, including Maharashtra, over the next two to three days; however, it will take some time to reach Himachal. A fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect the Western Himalayan region starting June 11.
The Meteorological Centre, Shimla, has issued a heatwave warning for Una, Bilaspur, and Solan for June 9 and 10. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph are expected in isolated areas of the state on June 11 and 12. Strong winds are also likely in the Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti districts during this period. Minimum temperatures may rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next three to four days, while maximum temperatures are expected to increase by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius.
The forecast indicates that thunderstorms and strong winds could disrupt power lines and communication systems. There is a risk of weak hoardings and roofs being blown away. Infants, the elderly, and individuals with chronic illnesses are advised to exercise special caution during heatwave conditions. People are advised to wear light, loose-fitting cotton clothing to stay cool. Farmers have been advised to provide light and frequent irrigation to protect crops from heat stress.
