Weather conditions have changed in Punjab and Chandigarh; several areas have been experiencing rain since last night. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rainfall starting today (July 27) and continuing for the next four days. An ‘Orange Alert’ for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been declared for July 28 and 29. Meanwhile, dam water levels remain below the danger mark.
According to the Chandigarh Meteorological Centre, the maximum temperature in the state has risen by 1.6°C, bringing it close to normal levels. The highest temperature, 36.8°C, was recorded in Bathinda. Chandigarh recorded 40 mm of rainfall by nightfall. The Meteorological Department forecasts rain across Punjab today.
Thunderstorms and lightning, accompanied by heavy rain, are expected in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, and Rupnagar. Additionally, light to moderate rain is likely in isolated areas across Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr (Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar), Rupnagar, SAS Nagar (Mohali), Ludhiana, Moga, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Bathinda, Mansa, Barnala, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala.
Monsoon to Revive in Punjab
According to Surendra Pal, Director of the Meteorological Department, a low-pressure area has formed over Rajasthan, and a Western Disturbance is active over North India. Under the influence of these two weather systems, skies over Punjab and Chandigarh will remain cloudy, and a spell of rain is likely to continue for the next few days. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in several areas across both regions during this period.
Electricity Demand Reaches 13,967 MW
Power supply in Punjab remained normal on Sunday. The state recorded a peak electricity demand of 13,967 MW. To meet this demand, power plants in Punjab generated 4,417 MW of electricity, while the remainder was sourced from other channels. Although the power received was 595 MW less than the allocated amount, this did not significantly impact the power system, and electricity supply across the state remained normal.
