The Siyur Bridge, which was under construction on the banks of the Ravi River in Bharmour, located in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, has fallen victim to a landslide. The damage to this bridge, which was being built to provide a convenient route from Holi to Bharmour, has resulted in a financial loss amounting to lakhs of rupees for the Public Works Department (PWD).
Furthermore, the hopes of residents across two local panchayats (village councils) have been dashed. Bharmour MLA Dr. Janak Raj Sharma stated that the landslide severely damaged the under-construction bridge, causing construction materials to tumble into the Ravi River.
The collapse of the bridge has completely disrupted road connectivity in the region, subjecting residents to severe hardships.
The Public Works Department had been engaged in the construction of this bridge for the past two years. Built at an estimated cost of approximately ₹4 crore, the project had reached an advanced stage, with the installation of steel railings at both ends already completed. Vehicular traffic was expected to commence on the bridge within the next few months.
However, earlier today at around 8:00 AM, heavy debris and boulders dislodged from the hillside and crashed onto the bridge. Fortunately, no laborers or civilians were present on the bridge at the time of the incident, thereby averting a major tragedy. In a matter of moments, the bridge’s structure crumbled and collapsed, plunging the site into chaos.
